Cyclemap problems
It appears that our hosts for the cyclemap, hostmonster.com, are playing silly buggers with it, and I don’t know why. I’ve no idea if or when it’ll be back again, but I’ll try to let everyone know.
Update: It’s back up now, and I’m resuming the update for this weeks tiles. Happy mapping!
That sucks! I was really enjoying the new elevation shading.

Yeah, it’s really cool. Unfortunately, after over an hour on the phone with them, they are still going with platitudes of “the transfer is taking a while” and other utter nonsense, so it’s not looking good. They seem bemused by someone who know such l33t stuff as ‘top’ and ‘du -sh’ when it comes to working out where their stuff is.
About now, if anyone knows anyone at hostmonster and wants to see the cycle map back in action, it’s time to pull those strings. There’s a US freecall number on their website: call them and ask why thunderflames.org is still offline.

I wonder if maybe the shading couldn’t use a bit wider color spectrum, at least at lower zoom levels. If you look at the rocky mountains, the whole area goes totally white. (http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=38.54&lon=-102.75&zoom=7&layers=00BFTF)
It seems to me that the transition from greens to browns occurs at too low an altitude, giving a false impression of tree line. Obviously, tree line varies from place to place, so I’m not sure what could be done about it.
Very nice work in any event. The cyclemap looks awesome.
